The Federation of St Kitts and Nevis’ Ministry of Education said it is putting a lot of effort into the important activities in the Education Section Plan for 2020-2021.

Dr. Tricia Esdaille, Senior Assistant Secretary in the Ministry of Education, announced this week that the ministry is trying to change the education sector’s career path and provide a framework for continued professional development for all educators.

St Kitts and Nevis is a West Indian Island that has become a regional educational hub. The government continues to invest millions in the sector through the Citizenship by Investment Program.

Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris pledged $104 million to education during the presentation of the financial proposals for 2022 in December 2021, accounting for more than ten percent of the total government budget. After the Ministry of Finance ($300 million) and the Prime Minister’s Office ($110 million), the sector received the third greatest funding allocation.

“We have revolutionized our CBI; we have come a long way from the difficult moment in 2014,” the Prime Minister said, referring to the Citizenship by Investment Program. The program’s stringent processes have allowed us to keep our platinum status and assured that we have a strong presence in the world’s key marketplaces.”

Because education in St Kitts and Nevis is free and compulsory for the first 12 years, the literacy rate is nearly flawless at 98 percent. Primary school enrolment is 83 percent, while secondary school attendance is 91 percent.

During the 73rd Republic Anniversary festivities this week, Prime Minister Harris commended the Republic of India and members of the Indian community for their contributions to the Federation’s prosperity.

Prime Minister Harris stated that the Indian community’s influence can be felt in all aspects of St Kitts and Nevis’ socioeconomic life. Prime Minister Harris remarked that the two countries have a passion for education, citing areas such as retail, tourism, and hospitality as examples.

“Your Honorary Consul Ramesh [Mulkanoor] provided leadership in the sector of offshore education at Windsor and brought a significant number of nationalities and persons of Indian descent to St Kitt’s and Nevis, many of whom have made St Kitts and Nevis their home,” he said.
