BookASmile, BookMyShow’s charitable initiative, begins the new year with its #RideToChange campaign, fulfilling its Bicycle Pledge last month. The #RideToChange campaign aimed to provide girls with transportation that would enable them to have a safe and prosperous future.

BookASmile has pledged 500 bicycles to young girls in Maharashtra’s Alibaug taluka to give them a safer means of pursuing their education and learning goals.

Alibaug has traditionally been a major tourist destination in Maharashtra. But the local people have long been struggling without reliable public transportation. However, school dropouts are common, with girls withdrawing from school in particular.

Children usually travel a long distance daily for fulfilling their basic education needs. Education is still a luxury for girls in this country, the long commute and concerns about safety added to a tough situation

Intending to deal with this problem, BookASmile and CFTI teamed up to assist young girls to address the first hurdle towards a better tomorrow. A fully-rounded life journey by providing bicycles in the Alibaug taluk, allowing for a safe commute as well as support for study and play. #RideToChange campaign also aims to inspire young girls to be future leaders by encouraging them to live a healthy as well as an active lifestyle.

In India, the educational imbalance is a major concern with which the country continues to struggle. This inequality is high in rural areas and among low-income families. Several issues contribute to the lack of good education for Indian girl children.

With the #RideToChange project, they look forward to making a positive change in the lives of young girls by helping them in attaining their full potential, Balpande, Farzana Cama Balpande, Head BookASmile expressed his hope.

Belushi, Kurul, Kurdus, Kusumbale, Phansapur, Shreegaon, and Waghode are the coastal Maharashtra villages where the girls received the cycles. The combined endeavour was finished by December 2021, having begun on International Women’s Day, March 8, 2021.

Since its inception in 2007, BookMyShow has grown to become the country’s leading entertainment booking platform. The BookASmile initiative was launched in 2014 to tackle social issues in India.

During the booking procedure, users of the platform have the option of giving Re. 1 per ticket. The platform’s BookASmile page also offers the option of contributing any amount starting as Re. 1.
